When Joe graduated from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo with a B.S. in Agribusiness, he believed he was going to realize his childhood dream of becoming a farmer. However, while working on his senior project, something clicked. Budgeting and managerial accounting was not only helping Joe stay focused and disciplined, but it was also helping him plan for less-than-optimal scenarios. After discovering his true calling in the world of numbers, Joe prepared for a new career by obtaining his Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license and an MBA from Washington State University. The rest, as they say, is history.

When asked what has made the most impact over his 30+ years in the profession, Joe says it was the guidance he received from leaders in operations—General Managers, Directors of Operation, Plant Managers, and the like. “These mentors imparted a key insight: to add value, you must first understand the operational intricacies of a business. This early lesson has allowed me to bridge the communication gap between operations and accounting— and become a true partner in my clients’ success,” says Joe.

Joe is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and uses his financial acumen and passion for guiding strategic decisions to serve his community. He currently sits on the board of Paradise Bottled Water, a for-profit entity that helps fund Columbia Industries' mission of supporting and empowering individuals with disabilities and other challenges.

Born in Long Beach, CA, Joe now calls Kennewick, WA, home. When he's not consulting Account Sense clients, you'll find Joe indulging in woodworking, recreational shooting, and fly fishing. Joe is married to Nancy and has twin boys who have flown the nest and are on their way to accomplishing their life goals.
