About the Tax Manager Role
As our Tax Manager, you’ll be a key leader in the firm, responsible for managing and mentoring our tax team, improving processes, reviewing complex returns, and advising clients on strategy and planning. This is a highly visible, client-facing role with direct impact on growth, service quality, and firm direction.
You’ll bring deep technical expertise in small business tax (especially 1065s and 1120s), strong leadership experience, and a passion for helping clients understand and implement strategic tax moves. You’ll also contribute to pricing, billing, workflow development, revenue growth, and future planning, alongside the leadership team.

This Role is Perfect if You:
- You’ve managed a team or run your own practice, and love leading others to success
- You bring high-level tax expertise across business entities (1065s, 1120s, 1040s with complex schedules, etc.)
- You’ve done real tax planning and strategy consulting with clients—not just applying a templated tax plan—and enjoy helping clients build and protect wealth
- You’re confident reviewing and mentoring preparers, and elevating the quality and clarity of work
- You enjoy building processes, streamlining workflow, and driving continuous improvement
- You’re energized by a leadership role with long-term potential—not just your next job
What You’ll Do:
- Lead & mentor a remote tax team: reviewing work, coaching growth, and managing capacity.
- Oversee the review process for complex business and individual returns
- Train and coach your team on technical skills, client communication, and best practices
- Work closely with clients on tax planning, strategy, and implementation
- Strengthen client relationships through high-touch support, proactive communication, and consultative insight
- Collaborate with leadership on pricing, billing, and client experience
- Participate in Firm Strategy, helping shape our growth, service model, and future alongside firm leadership.
Experience You Should Have:
- 7+ years of tax experience, including 3+ years in a review or leadership role
- Deep knowledge of small business taxation (especially 1065s, 1120s, and 1040s with complex investments or passthroughs)
- Experience managing a remote team or running your own firm
- Excellent communication skills—verbal and written—with clients and staff
- A high interest in technology (including AI) and using it to further enhance how we serve our customers
- Ability to lead in a paperless, cloud-based environment
- CPA or EA credential required
- Bonus Points If You Have:
- Experience implementing new technologies in your firm(s)
- Worked with clients in medical, real estate, or professional services industries
- Experience using CCH Axcess, QBO, or Xero
